Groundwater Well Installation & Monitoring

Following the removal of an underground petroleum storage system, a plume of leaked hydrocarbons was detected in soils surrounding the tank’s former position. Contaminated soils were subsequently removed, characterised, and appropriately disposed, with the former tank site validated prior to remediation with clean fill. The shallow depth of groundwater and high porosity sand loam soils in the area necessitated the monitoring of the surrounding aquifer for migration of hydrocarbon contamination. In considering the physical and chemical properties of landforms, hydrocarbon contaminants and the aquifer, a site specific Groundwater Monitoring Plan was produced recommending installation of appropriate monitoring wells. These were subsequently installed, developed, and monitored by Edwards Environmental.
