Preliminary Site Investigation & Detailed Site Investigation

A residential development project involving the environmental assessment of five existing separate sites in social housing estates was carried out in Bendigo. Desktop studies undertaken for each site reported all were located within areas of legacy mining activity. Subsequently, intrusive preliminary site investigations (PSI) were undertaken with sampling of soils at surface and to depths between 1.2mBGL and 6.0mBGL. All sites contained mine tailings and arsenic concentrations therein exceeding trigger levels for residential sites within the Bendigo area (NEPM 1999 – as amended 2013). Consequently, Edwards Environmental, in co-ordination with an EPA Approved Auditor determined suitable management and remediation requirements for the site. Edwards Environmental was subsequently contracted to complete the required remediation and management works.
